Now in its third year, this professional learning network fosters literacy practices that support PK-12 teaching and learning across content areas for all students. Educators from all disciplines are welcome to join.
The CDLN includes content strands for:
- Science and Technology
- Social Studies
- Visual and Performing Arts
- World Languages
- English Language Arts
- Health Education
- Physical Education
The CDLN utilizes both online webinars and in-person learning opportunities. This year, the in-person sessions will be offered in five regional locations throughout Maine. The sessions will use a facilitated Dine and Discuss format (supper included). Opportunities for text-based discussions, sharing both instructional strategies and student work, and networking with other educators will be abundant during these events which will run from 4:15-6:45 p.m. The professional text discussion will focus on the use of collaborative conversations to build learner understanding.
For the webinar portion of the network, participants select Webinar Strands aligned to their professional learning goals. The strands will be discipline specific and will support the achievement of content area standards through use of literacy strategies. Each strand will include two 60 -75 minute webinars. Participants may register for multiple strands. Webinars will be developed and delivered by Maine educators with support from MDOE content specialists. Webinar presentations will be held after school and archived so that participants can watch them again and/or obtain the content at a later time.
Contact hours will be awarded for both Dine and Discuss sessions (2.5 hours each) and for participation in webinars (1 hour each).
To register, visit the CDLN page, where you can view the 2014-15 Cross Discipline Literacy Network schedule to read about Dine and Discuss locations, webinar strand options and professional text choices. Once you know which regional site, webinar strand(s), and professional text you want to select, complete the online registration. Registration cost is $40 for the year. Participants will purchase their own copies of the professional text they select. The registration deadline is October 13, 2014.
