Literacy & Adult Basic Education
Adult Basic Education in Maine provides adults with educational opportunities to acquire and improve the literacy skills necessary to become self-sufficient and to participate effectively as productive workers, family members and citizens. The Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, enacted as Title II of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, is the principal source of federal support for adult basic and literacy education programs for adults who lack basic skills, a high school diploma or proficiency in English.
