Professional Development & Training
The Maine Department of Education is committed to providing professional development programs and resources to help English learners meet the Maine Learning Results and English language development standards.
Every year, the Department, through World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA), offers Maine educators the opportunity to take the Standards-Based Test Item Writing and WIDA Teacher Collaboration graduate course. By relying on such a course to generate test items, ACCESS for ELLs® (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners) is made relevant to students because the context for test items is drawn from what educators teach on a daily basis.
If you would like to become certified to administer the secure ACCESS for ELLs® test, complete the online training through WIDA and obtain a certificate. All new users are required to create new accounts. To do so, click the “Login” button in the top of the page and enter the following information:
- Username: maine
- Password: lobster
(Note: Both username and password must be entered in all lowercase letters.)
Then enter your personal information. Once you have submitted the form, your account will be immediately activated, and a confirmation email will be sent.
To supplement the online course, the Maine DOE offers one face-to-face workshop for new ACCESS for ELLs® administrators. The face-to-face training does not replace the online training course above. The online course is required to be WIDA-certified to administer the ACCESS for ELLs®, and participants should complete the online course prior to attending the workshop.
- Register. ACCESS/W-APT/MODEL training for new administrators on January 9, 2015. To be held at the Burton M Cross Building, Room 103, Augusta.
