Use Caution when boating on marked and unmarked lakes!
Watercraft operators are encouraged to be cautious on our lakes, whether they are marked or unmarked. The inland waterways of Maine are irregular in shape and the bottom contours are highly unpredictable. Please take this opportunity to learn more about boating safety. It is the responsibility of watercraft operators to learn and understand what buoys indicate, and to comply with the rules of the nautical road. Use caution when boating in unfamiliar waters.
For more information on the marking system you may read the Maine State Aids to Navigation System online document or contact the Navigational Aids Program at (207) 582-5771.
