Take A Stand For Hemlocks
Description: This volunteer program invites Maine citizens and seasonal residents to "Take a Stand for Hemlocks" by adopting a hemlock stand and surveying it annually for the presence of hemlock woolly adelgid. Participants are trained to identify hemlock woolly adelgid and to apply the detection and monitoring survey methods developed by Scott Costa at the University of Vermont.

- 7/10/2008-- Take A Stand Volunteer Finds Hemlock Woolly Adelgid at Ferry Beach State Park.
- 8/5/2007--New quarantine rules restrict movement of hemlock products with bark from the infested area in Maine.
- 6/21/2007-- Poster available for download (pdf, ~1MB). This 8-1/2"x11" poster has basic information on how to identify and report the presence of hemlock woolly adelgid. It is ideal for posting at trail-heads and on public bulletin boards. A limited quantity of laminated and poster stock copies is available from the Maine Forest Service.
