Subject: Important DMR amendment to Cobscook Harvest Plan
Please be aware of the following request being made today by Commissioner Lapointe. This will be added into your Harvest Plan for 2009. A similar note has been sent to North American Kelp.
June 24, 2009 - DMR NOTE: As a condition of the Department of Marine Resources approval of Acadian Seaplants Limited 2009 Cobscook Harvest Plan, the Department is requesting that you postpone harvest off three seabird nesting islands until July 31 when the young birds will have fledged. The islands are Razor Island in Sector A-6, Red Island in Sector A-20, and Fred’s Island in Sector A-34 (already identified as Conserved Land). It is DMR's hope that doing so now on a voluntary basis will help avoid a complete closure in the future. The Department is making a similar request of North American Kelp. Any questions about this may be directed to John Sowles at 633-9518.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter,
[David Etnier, DMR Deputy Commissioner]
