The Maine Marine Animal Reporting Hotline (formerly the Maine State Whale Hotline) is a dedicated toll-free number that receives and directs reports of whales, seals, dolphins, porpoises, and sea turtles.
In an effort to streamline public reporting of marine animal sightings, the DMR partnered with several Maine strandings organizations to develop a single state-wide toll-free hotline.
This phone is physically stationed at the DMR in West Boothbay Harbor. Calls received during office hours are answered by a human operator; calls after hours are routed through a phone tree using a script.
