     DEPARTMENT OF MARINE RESOURCES

What is the Recreational Marine Advisory Council:

In 1996 Governor King initiated an Executive Order to establish a Maine Recreational Marine Fisheries Advisory Council. The purpose of this advisory council is to advise the Commissioner of the DMR on issues pertaining to recreational marine fisheries including, but not limited to, the needs and priorities of the recreational sector, conservation measures, improvement of communications between recreational and commercial fisheries interests and programs to enhance the status of marine recreational species. The Order goes on to say the Council will be made up of ten members, nine from the recreational sector and one commercial representative to be appointed by the Commissioner. This Council should reflect diversity in geographical residence and species of interest.

The following are members as of February, 2004: Mr. Gerald Rideout, Capt. Dave Pecci, Capt. Cal Robinson, Capt. Tim Tower, Capt. Robin Thayer and Capt. Tom Carter. Three other positions are currently vacant
