Blaine House Conference
on Natural Resource-based
Industries
"Charting
a New Course"
November 17, 2003 . Augusta Civic
Center
Maine today faces challenges
of truly historic proportion in our natural resource based industries
including fishing, farming, forestry, and aquaculture. Once the mainstay
and promise of our economy, each faces dire threats to its very existence;
and tourism depends upon their health and well-being for its own.
Blaine House Conference Goals:
1. Identify for Maine people
the importance of these industries to the Maine economy and culture,
and the nature and scale of the current threats to them;
2. Encourage fresh, creative
ways of thinking about these issues, and new networks of relationships
to deal with them; and
3. Move as far as possible
toward a practical plan of action to follow up on the conference, with widespread buy-in, and with specific
actions, responsibilities, and timelines.
