  MUNICIPAL SHELLFISH MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

REQUIREMENTS FOR SURVEYING CLOSED AREAS

 

"Except as provided in section 6621...... a program or ordinance may not allow surveying, sampling or harvesting ofshellfish in areas closed by regulation of the commisioner." Title 12 M.R.S.A. Chapter 623 Article 4 ss6671

"[Exception] Municipal officials, with express written athorization from the commissioner, who are engaged in activities authorized under section 6671." Title 12 M.R.S.A. Chapter 623 Article 4 ss6621
 

The following steps are necessary to receive the approval of the Commissioner in a timely manner.

 1. Contact the Regional DMR biologist responsible for your town. (The biologists should be made aware of any conservation action proposed by the municipality.)

2. Fill out and send the following application at least a week prior to the requested date. 

3. Retain a copy for your files.
 
NOTE: Do not list multiple areas on this form, each area must be applied for separately.
 
A letter of approval from the DMR signed by the Commissioner will be mailed to your Town Clerk.
