Private Labs
Maine Clammer’s Association President Chad Coffin addressed the Committee concerning the use of private labs for water quality analysis. He stated that as a result of discussions during the recently held Shellfish Advisory Council meeting, towns that wish to collect samples following rainfall events may use private labs to determine fecal scores and that DMR would utilize the resulting data in determining conditional area classifications based upon rainfall. .
Nonesuch River
There was a discussion of water quality sampling of the Nonesuch during rainfall events. There was a concern that the process has not been formalized by the town and that opportunities to collect rainfall pertinent data may be missed. .
Conservation Areas
Co-chair Twomey announced that there will be no public hearing on the Jones Creek conservation area as the required notification did not take place. The Committee will try again next month.
Red Tide
Warden Dave Corbeau reported that red tide sampling continues to be done once a week and the Scarborough River has remained free of red tide.
Conservation Credit
The Committee voted to authorize Warden Corbeau to supervise ad hoc conservation projects for an individual that wishes to participate in conservation projects even though his conservation requirement has been waived.
