Harpswell Shellfish Committee Meeting

June 24, 2008

Shoreline Survey

Warden Lee Bradbury reported that he assisted Water Quality Specialist Laura Livingston in conducting a shoreline survey of Ash Cove on June 12th. During the survey, 40 properties were inspected and four questionable septic systems were discovered.

Water Quality

Member Shelly Wilson reported that although Brickyard Cove has shown consistently good water quality for the past four and a half years, the Public Health Division has as yet to reclassify the area as approved. She said that the Town has addressed problems identified during the last shoreline survey of the area and that each of the problems was taken care of and the Division notified. She added that the Division’s response to the lack of action on Brickyard was that an annual report on the area has yet to be completed.

Shellfish Maps

Chairman Scott Moody reported that Shellfish Coordinator Michelle Mason contacted him and thanked him for the shellfish map prepared by Committee Member David Wilson but that the scale was inappropriate for her use. She asked that the information be added to the map copies that she mailed to the Committee. Member Wilson agreed to redo the maps.

Swimming Pool

New Committee Member Mike Bernier reported that a resident of Gun Point erected a swimming pool on wetlands last summer. The pool was drained during the winter and he questioned where the pool water went. The Codes Office will be asked to investigate.

Next Meeting

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on August 26th at 7 pm at the Town Office Selectmen’s Chamber.
