Maine Municipal Shellfish Management Information Links

There are a number of documents related to clam management that are accessible through this web site.

  • Application Forms: Many shellfish conservation activities require notification of or a permit from the Department. These include conservation closures, clam transplanting, licensing and amending the shellfish ordinance.
  • Clam Landings: Statewide clam landing information is provided to the Department by shellfish dealers. This information is tabulated by county and town and includes landed amount and price for several years.
  • Laws and Regulations: A compilation of state statutes and department regulations regarding shellfish is regularly updated and presented as a web page.
  • Municipal Licensing: Each municipality with a shellfish ordinance sets its own license numbers in consultation with the Department. This is documented as a summary on a town by town basis.
  • Municipal Ordinances: All shellfish conservation ordinances are based upon a Model Shellfish Conservation Ordinance but are unique to each municipality. The municipal ordinances are presented as .pdf documents.
  • Soft-Shell Clam Research: Research papers and articles directly related to soft-shell clam management.
  • State License List: Commercial shellfish harvesting requires a state license. Information on individuals obtaining a commercial shellfish license is listed.
