  Distress Signals  

Vessels operating 3 to 50 miles from the coastline:
  -  3 parachute flares
  -  6 hand-held flares
  -  3 smoke signals

BE SURE TO CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATES ON YOUR FLARES !

Vessels operating in coastal waters out to 3 miles:
  -  1 S.O.S. electric light at night and 1 orange flag or smoke signals during the day
                                OR
  -  3 flares approved for both day and night use
