Maine Injury Prevention Program (MIPP):
- Injury is the leading cause of death among our youngest citizens, accounting for approximately 30% of all years of life lost before age 65.
- It surpasses all major diseases as a cause of prematurely lost years of life, exceeding losses from heart disease, cancer, and stroke combined.
- Injuries and injury related deaths, both unintentional and intentional, account for millions of dollars of health care costs and immeasurable pain, suffering and diminished quality of life.
