Division of Chronic Disease > Maine Breast & Cervical Health Program > Services Covered by MBCHP Services Covered by MBCHPThe Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program (MBCHP) contracts with 123 primary care sites to offer breast and cervical cancer screenings to Maine women who qualify. The program is funded by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is limited in what it offers for covered services. For women who qualify, the MBCHP pays for an exam every year with a participating doctor or nurse, which includes:
*After three normal Pap test results in a row within 5-years, the MBCHP will pay for a Pap test every three years, unless your doctor determines you need to be tested more often. If you have had a complete hysterectomy, the MBCHP will only pay for a Pap test if the hysterectomy was for cervical cancer or if part of your cervix remains. If needed, the following services are also covered:
The MBCHP covers only services that are related to breast or cervical cancer screening and diagnostics. The services listed above will be paid for by the MBCHP each year as long as a woman qualifies. A woman must see a MBCHP doctor or nurse in order for her services to be covered. The MBCHP does not cover services such as: urine tests, blood tests, stool tests, bone density tests, transvaginal ultrasounds, pelvic ultrasounds, chest x-rays, MRI's, colonoscopies or any prescription drugs.
