Introduction To Child Welfare/Foundation Of Signs Of Safety

The Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) Practice Model and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Guiding Principles provide the framework for the introductory day. The purpose of new worker training, and the roles of trainees and trainers are reviewed. Caseworkers are introduced to DHHS Guiding Principles, OCFS Child Welfare Policy and Practice Model and the importance of connecting these to caseworker practice. They are also introduced to the four components of the Practice Model Implementation Initiative and the case flow continuum as well.
The practice of Signs of Safety is introduced starting with the four components that build the foundation of the Signs of Safety. These components are honoring, strength based, questioning approaches and safety organized practice.
