Coaching for Improved Job Performance
ENROLL IN THIS CLASS
Helen Wieczorek
INTENDED AUDIENCE: Supervisory Staff from the Department and Agencies
CREDIT: .6 CEUs
Coaching for improved performance is a critical function of supervisors and managers, for overall good employees who simply have areas where they might improve and certainly for those not meeting performance expectations. Too often supervisors move from informal communication to counseling and discipline and miss opportunities to build relationships and develop the employee. This program provides a practical method for describing performance problems, a coaching model that relies on such concepts as good business reasons for expectations and consequences for failure to meet expectations, and skill development in holding employees accountable for improving their own performance. The program includes presentation, small group exercises, and practice sessions.

Ethical Decision Making Round Table for Social Workers
ENROLL IN THIS CLASS
Kate Carnes
INTENDED AUDIENCE: For DHHS staff who must complete 4 hours in Social Work Ethics to maintain their
license.
CREDIT: .4 CEUs
Each participant must bring an appropriately de-identified dilemma to the program. This should be a dilemma you would be comfortable sharing with a small group of colleagues.
Ethics is the study of standards of “right” and “wrong” and usually we are not in great conflict over those choices. Our dilemmas occur when two “rights” or two of our core values come into conflict with each other and we find ourselves with difficult decisions to make. We face these dilemmas, which are known as “right versus right” dilemmas, all the time at work and in our personal lives.
This four-hour workshop is designed to help social workers providing services to clients of the Department of Health and Human Services to sharpen their skills in decision making when they are faced with such dilemmas.
The program will include a review of any changes in the NASW Code of Ethics and a review of the Ethical Standards of Social Work. We will review the decision making model for dealing with right versus right dilemmas by working through a dilemma together. Finally, each participant, in small groups, will use the model to analyze and resolve a dilemma they have brought to the program. The NASW code can be found on their website at http://www.socialworkers.org/pubs/code/code.asp.

ENROLL IN THIS CLASS
Catherine Chichester
INTENDED AUDIENCE: Staff and Agency Personnel
CREDIT: .6 CEUs
Individuals and families with co-existing complex substance use and mental health conditions are the norm and require that the treatment provider and the treatment system as a whole respond to those needs with an integrated, no wrong door approach. When these complex and multiple needs are not recognized or responded to in an integrated way, they place the individual and the system at risk for poorer outcomes and higher costs.
This one-day workshop will provide a theoretical and practical guide to welcome, engage and develop integrated treatment approaches with individuals and their families who experience co-occurring conditions. The focus will be on integrated screening, assessment and the development of collaborative and participatory treatment strategies.

Protecting Public Safety by reducing recidivism is a major function of the Maine Department of Corrections (MDOC.) A major cause of recidivism is substance abuse. The Differential Substance Abuse Treatment (DSAT) program was developed for the criminal justice population as a collaborative effort by the Maine Office of Substance Abuse (OSA) and MDOC. DSAT is a manualized evidence based practice system being implemented throughout the adult MDOC institutions and the adult Drug Court system. Thus Maine is implementing a state wide system for criminal justice substance abuse treatment both in community and institutional settings. The program includes a brief discussion of evidence based practice, history of DSAT development and an overview of current and planned prison programs.
