Quality Champions

Dr. Jose Castellanos: Dr "C" -
Dr. "C" joined the Riverview/AMHI staff in 1958 and is our true "Senior Champion". He serves as the medical services doctor for Upper Saco and Lower Kennebec. He best represents the "caring" physician--compassionate, dedicated, patient, and gentle. He is never cross or short-tempered, even when stressed by a busy work day. He always researches and explains the most complicated of topics to our clients so they can make informed decisions about their health care. For these reasons he is the first Quality Champion for all of us.

Barney Degen, MHW lV -
Barney works 7-3 on Upper Kennebec. Barney started out at Augusta Mental Health Institute 35 years ago. Barney is a Milieu Manager and oversees that client needs are addressed in a timely manner. He works very closely with the clients and staff to promote safety and recovery. Barney is a professional who is dedicated to quality patient care and has a great sense of humor.

Kevin Faile, MHW ll -
Kevin works 3-11 on Upper Kennebec. Kevin has worked at the hospital in the past, left for a time but is now back with us for one year and ten months. Kevin has an excellent attitude and he is a new active Nappi Instructor. He is very caring about his clients and it shows. Kevin promotes safety and the recovery model.

Janet Barrett, Recreation Therapist for Lower Saco -
Janet steadfastly presents the best for her clients and her profession while maintaining a professional demeanor. Her knowledge of the field of Rehabilitation is impressive, continually increasing and most admirable. Her organizational skills are impressive as she seems to have an excellent grasp of concepts which promote increased efficiency and effectiveness. She consistently demonstrates respect, caring and compassion in her interactions with clients. Janet's enthusiasm, creativity, work ethic and sheer persistence have been monumental in engaging clients in their own recovery.

Paula Keever, MHW ll, works 7-3 on Upper Kennebec -
Paula started out 19 years ago at Augusta Mental Health Institute and we are very fortunate to have her on the Upper Kennebec team. Paula is a professional who quietly goes about caring for her clients to promote safety and recovery. She is always willing to go the extra mile for the clients and her fellow workers.

Mary Techiera, Habilitation Aide for Lower Saco -
Mary is one of the most dedicated employees that I have had the pleasure to observe. She reports to work every day, usually earlier than scheduled, with a smile on her face for all. One can't help but smile back after her cheerful greeting. She is always looking out for the best interest of the clients and comes up with creative ways to help motivate clients.

George McLaughlin, MHW III, Job Coach for Vocational Rehabilitation -
George is willing to take on any assignment and does so in a very professional manner. He looks to get suggestions, asks for feedback and then uses the perimeters given to form a plan and carries it through to the end. He is dedicated to helping clients achieve whatever their vocational plan may be. He strives to incorporate new trends and knowledge gained into his everyday work performed here at Riverview.

Maricore Delatorre- MHW II -
Maricore has worked as a MHW since 2003 and currently works on Lower Saco. She is dedicated to the Clients she serves, she is always willing to pitch in when needed. She works well with her co-workers, is a team player, always has a smile, is flexible and compassionate with Clients and is always willing to give 100%.

Alice Gove - MHW III- Milieu Manger -
Alice has worked as a MHW since 1987 and currently works as the Milieu Manger for Lower Saco. Alice is responsible, fair, dedicated, and supportive of her staff. She works well with Clients and is always instrumental in dealing with acute situations. Alice has a great sense of humor and is always on top of things. Alice is truly an asset to RPC as well as to the client RPC serves.

Mark Keene- MHW II -
Mark has worked as a MHW since 1990 and currently works on Lower Saco. Mark is always a contestant on Lower Saco. He is generous, respectful and supportive of the clients he serves. He handles acute situations confidently- is supportive and helpful with his co-workers, and always has safety first as a priority.

Larry Tondreau MHW I -
Larry has been at Riverview three years this coming August. He has worked LK and LS and is someone who reports promptly everyday with a positive attitude. He remains calm under stressful times and always shows respect and kindness towards clients and peers. His attitude is positive and helpful. He is a quiet man who stays in the background and gets the job done. He maintains safety as a priority but does so in a non-confrontational way. He is always open to discussion and listening. Larry has a wealth of expertise in other areas such as computers and volunteers to assist with many duties not related to his specific job.

Cindy Michaud -
Cindy has been an Accountant for AMHI/Riverview for 14 years. Although Cindy works during the day shift 7-4, she frequently stays longer and comes in earlier to make sure that the bills for clients care and all the support services the hospital provides, are paid on time. Cindy always makes sure unit staff have immediate access to funds to allow those exceptional client shopping needs, and the special celebrations the hospital does. Cindy negotiates several hospital contracts and has saved the hospital several thousand dollars in her meticulous auditing. Cindy does her job unselfishly and with a great attitude, has great ideas to improve financial services, treats everyone with a great deal of respect, and is always willing to help out.

Suzanne Burroughs, Secretary for Secretary for Lauret Crommett -
Suzanne is an eighteen year employee of AMHI/Riverview. In her career, she has worked in many depts. The hallmark of Sue is that she is always willing to do what needs to be done for everyone. Sue is a person who always anticipates need and is proactive in her approach. She responds to each request in a positive manner and displays a joyful manner. We are so lucky to have Sue here. She is definitely one of our Quality Champions.

Michelle Miles MHW 7-3 -
Michelle has volunteered her time to be part the Safety Committee. She has taught training with Dr Mayo on understanding Self abusive behaviors. She does a safe group on the TX Mall, and brings her expertise to work with some of the most challenging clients. Michelle brings hard work and dedication to her position.

Dale Trafton MHW 7-3 -
Dale’s service to the clients deserves merit. Dale will be the first one to go above and beyond to make an activity happen, to help clients with goals and issues and he actively promotes team work everyday.

Chris Mace RN 3-11 -
Chris is a Nappi Trainer and a key person in the Leadership Committee. In addition, Chris serves on the Staffing oversight committee and has taken a leadership role in the Forensic Level Process.

Barbara (Colleen) Degan RN 7-3 -
Colleen’s has a style that brings the best of hope and recovery to the work she does with her clients. Colleen is a Nappi trainer and a dedicated member of the team, always going the extra mile for both staff and clients on Upper Saco.
