Message from the Superintendent (July 11, 2008)

"The most satisfying thing in life is to have been able to give a large part of one's self to others." - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

It is a great day to be in Maine. Weather is Great, fish are biting, and we are doing great work!  I thought I would share a couple items with you.  Lost time injuries continue to decline here at the hospital.

Mandated work shifts have also declined.  Although our overtime has increased, I am hoping it is primarily due to vacations and people enjoying life in Maine.

A new department policy is out on plants in the work place. I would ask that you not bring any new plants into your office areas and consider taking some home.  I have asked for consideration of an exemption for client care areas and am hopeful that will be positively received. So we will wait before moving plants out of these areas.

The Governor’s office has released a statement asking us all to curtail spending and establishing guidelines to help the budgetary process during these tough economic times.  Generally the hospital is in good shape fiscally, but will have to become tighter on purchases over the foreseeable future.

I also wanted to share that Cathy Smith and all the staff on Lower Kennebec received a very nice complement from a client about the wonderful care he received there. Although we do not always hear from our clients their appreciation,  I know how important the work you do is and I frequently hear from clients, families, and others on how your work has lead to healing.  I hope each of you realize the power of the work you do.  It is a great thing to lessen pain and despair and provide hope and optimism.

As always, thank you for your good work and service.  Have a great weekend.

In Service,
David S. Proffitt
