> Message from the Superintendent (March 24, 2006)
Riverview Psychiatric CenterMessage from the Superintendent (March 24, 2006)Dear Riverview Staff Sorry if you were expecting the weekly update from David, but he has graciously given me his normal time/space with you for me to update all of you on the NAMI Walk. Last week I attended the organizational meeting for the NAMI Walk for Mental Health event coming up Saturday May 13th. Currently there are 30+ Walking Teams who will be participating (aside from us at Riverview ), including Spring Harbor, Cumberland County Jail, Maine Associations of both Psychiatrists and Psychologists, Tri-County Mental Health, University of Southern Maine, Spurwink, Ingraham, DHHS Region I, and the list goes on. The goal for each Team (such as the Riverview Rockets) is to have at least 10 team members walking, and through pledges, have each walker raise $100.00 (10 of your friends/colleagues pledge #10.00 each) , and therefore each Team raise $1,000. I think we can do much better here at Riverview. As I mentioned in my other e-mail…this is purely voluntary, I have 6 people already signed up to walk….but we need more…and we are not limited to 10….the walk is around the back-cove bay in Portland beginning at 10:00am . Back-bay is a beautiful walk, and you can bring your family, walk as long or as short as you want, go downtown, to the mall, museum, Old Port, whatever….but your effort will raise money for a very worthwhile cause. Riverview will provide T-shirts so I will need a count and size, before we go. If you are interested in walking, or pledging, please let me know. I will be setting up a meeting of the "Team Riverview" walkers…or the Riverview Rockets (as someone has already submitted) shortly so again, let me know if you would like to do this. If some of the PSDs or Tina Libby’s staff in particular, thinks this could be an opportunity for clients to get out…exercise….lets talk about seeing if there is a way to do that… At this point, I am looking for ideas, and interest, and walkers would be willing to get people to pledge, or pledges for walkers. Thanks again. Jamie P. Morrill
