Department of Health and Human Services
Riverview Psychiatric Center
Message from the Superintendent (January 08, 2006)
Well, the holidays are over and I hope everyone had a chance to celebrate with family and friends and enjoy the season. All the staff here did a terrific job with Holiday Gifts for the clients, Giving Trees, special meals, decorated units. It really went a long way to being part of the treatment environment in this hospital and was appreciated by the clients and certainly me. Thanks you.
The beginning of this "winter" season also means slippery roads and walk ways so please be careful coming and leaving work. Maintenance is doing a great job keeping the hospital open, plowed, sanded.
The beginning on the new year also marks the beginning of the legislative session. First, as most of you may know, there have been constant discussions by legislative committee (and the newspapers) on just how big Riverview needs to be. This is an issue that will be discussed by the Governors Office and the Legislature this session. Our job continues to be to provide the best care we possibly can to the clients trusted to our care. If you do get contacted by a legislator, or the press, on this or other hospital issues, please simply refer them to either myself or Jamie Morrill. We want to make sure we respond to those inquiries quickly and appropriately. I will include legislative updates in my weekly update as issues unfold to keep you informed.
Our Department of Human Resources recently sent out a notice of new hires, promotions, transfers and staff leaving employment. I appreciate the news and want to thank Lucia and her staff for doing that. It will be a regular monthly news note from HR.
I also want to make note that John Walker has received his “EPA’s Universal Technician Certification” status. He is now certified to work on any type of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment (except the ones in our cars). He now joins Dwaine Brown & Mark Diskin with this certification. Congratulations John.
We have issued a press release on the remarkable millstone of this hospital having no 5 point restraints in Dec, so hopefully you will see something in the papers soon. Regardless, it is worth saying again….great job.
As always, I appreciate the work
