Message from the Superintendent (December 27, 2005)

The grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for." - Allan K. Chalmers

This week, during what I hope is a very happy time for you and those important to you, I wish each of you joy in your work and non-work, your family and friends, and the hope that each of us working together will bring greater hope to all that come to Riverview seeking it.

I would also share an accomplishment of yours that you may not be aware. For the past 5 years we have had a “giving tree” to help the families of our employees. Names of those employees, who could use a helping hand, are received by managers as well as their peers. Tags are placed on a tree, gifts are bought and money is donated. This year, however, we were fortunate to have a couple of things happen that had not previously happened. The first being that the hospital administration agreed to match all cash donations received. Secondly, along with the $290.00 collected from staff, we also received a $500.00 donation from the AFCSME union. This gave us a total of $790.00 which was matched allowing us to spend $1580.00 on helping our staff and their families. We were able to provide over $600.00 worth of Irving Oil gift certificates, over $300.00 in Wal-Mart cards and $300.00 in Hannaford gift certificates. This along with a number of clothing items that were bought and received for the children of our employees allowed us to keep the giving spirit alive. Working together we helped in making this a brighter and happier holiday for the 12 families that will be the recipients of your generosity. A special thanks out to Tina Libby who shepherded this process. I would also like to thank those who will be here, at Riverview, assisting those in our care, at this special time of year.

Have a Very, Very happy holiday Season!

David S. Proffitt, Superintendent
Riverview Psychiatric Center
