The DHHS Service Center provides financial management and human resource functions to Riverview Psychiatric Center within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Job duties:  
As the Personnel Officer, you will assist the Director of Human Resources in overseeing human resource functions and activities at Riverview Psychiatric Center, Augusta, ME; you will oversee the day-to-day human resources activities for the hospital under the direction of the Department’s Human Resources Director.  Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the consistent implementation with RPC of state personnel program policies, practices, and procedures, collective bargaining agreement provisions, and applicable   state and federal, laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ensuring all RPC recruitment activities are completed on a timely basis and in accordance with Civil Service laws, and rules.
  • Providing ongoing employee relations support to RPC managers, including contract administration, discipline, and grievance resolution.
  • Investigating allegations of employee misconduct and preparing investigation summary reports.
  • Overseeing the day-today administration of RPC’s automated payroll system.
  • Managing the facilities workers’ compensation program.

Requirements:
In order to qualify, you must have a six (6) year combination of education and professional level experience in human resources management.  Preference will be given to candidates with a professional background in human resource and labor relations experience in a hospital setting.  The background of well-qualified candidates will demonstrate the following competencies: 

  • A proven ability to oversee recruitment and selection functions for a large agency preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills and a demonstrated ability to successfully resolve labor/management disagreements.
  • The ability to research and investigate allegations of employee misconduct.
  • A proven ability to oversee payroll functions and staff in an automated payroll system environment.
  • A proven ability and knowledge in workers compensation.

Minimum qualifications:  A four (4) year combination of education, training, and experience in menu planning and food purchasing, storage, preparation, and service in an institutional food service program including some administrative and supervisory responsibility.

Intensive Case Manager (5042)

Job Description:  The Department of Health & Human Services, Riverview Psychiatric Center is currently recruiting for an Intensive Case Manager to provide professional services work in the area of intensive case management for high-risk mental health clients within the hospital at Riverview and during their transition into the community.  Individuals will act as a single identifiable support in a comprehensive and individualized approach to transition clients from the hospital into the community ensuring basic living needs are met and assisting clients in gaining access to medical and psychiatric requirements, rehabilitation, social, peer, educational, psychological support services.  Direct monitoring of client integration progress and overall service delivery system. Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of/worked within a comprehensive community mental health system.

Minimum qualifications:  In order to qualify, you must have a Bachelors Degree in one of the Social or Behavioral Sciences and four years experience in professional community mental health work.  A Masters Degree in Social Work may be substituted for two years experience.  Equivalent work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.   You must have a Social Work Licensure (LSW) in order to qualify.

Physician Assistant (4307)

JOB DESCRIPTION:  This is professional medical services work in directing the delivery of medical and psychiatric services to adult clients under the supervision of a staff physician.  Work includes conducting physical examinations, performing psychiatric assessments and mental status exams, diagnosing mental and physical illnesses, counseling, making patient referrals for specialty care, providing health education, determining treatment needed, ordering laboratory tests and X-ray, and prescribing medication to provide for the health, safety and treatment of clients.  Work also includes working collaboratively with other members of the psychiatric treatment team. Work is performed under administrative direction with review by a supervising physician.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  In order to qualify, you must be licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner as issued by the Maine State Board of Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant as issued by the Maine State Board of Physicians.  License must include authority to prescribe medications.


Preference will be given to candidates licensed as a Nurse Practitioner and those who have at least two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant in a psychiatric setting.

Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta, Maine is currently recruiting for a Nurse IV NOD.  The prospective employee will work 3 pm – 11 pm.

This is professional services work of a supervisory nature in directing nursing services or assisting the nursing director at a State institution.  Responsibilities include planning a nursing program of some scope; organizing supervising, training, and coordinating the work of a large group of professional and paraprofessional personnel who provide necessary and direct care services; and inspecting and evaluating nursing services.  Work is performed under limited supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:  Registration by the Maine State Board of Nursing; two (2) years nursing experience at a supervisory level; certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse and/or Masters Degree in Psychiatric Nursing; excellent oral and written communication skills; and demonstrated leadership ability to work with a team.

Mental Health Worker I (4015)

The Department of Health & Human Services, Riverview Psychiatric Center, has immediate vacancies for Mental Health Worker I positions on 2nd and 3rd shifts. This is paraprofessional support work involving the rehabilitation and security of clients in state institutions. Responsibilities include implementing programs in the treatment or education of the mentally ill, providing patient care, and maintaining resident areas. Employees may act as a group leader or primary aide over an assigned group of clients. Work is performed under general supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:
Current valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant as issued by the Maine Department of Education.  The ideal candidate would also have a Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician certification and/or psychiatric experience

Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta, Maine is currently recruiting for a Cook I (18 hours per week).  The prospective employee will work 2:30 p.m.– 6:30 p.m. with every 3rd weekend off. 

This position is responsible for maintenance and personal services work in preparing one or several parts of a complete meal in a large (24/7) institutional setting, or preparation and service of an entire meal in a small kitchen. This position is critical to health and safety in that they are responsible for preparing food for clients in accordance with client’s specific dietary needs or special requests. Work is performed under general supervision.

Minimum qualifications:  One (1) year experience in large-scale institutional food preparation including serving and clean-up.

Job Description: This professional nurse consultant is responsible for the risk management activities at Riverview Psychiatric Center. Responsibilities include assisting in developing quality indicators, obtaining data, follow up on incident reports, inputting data to the Meditech system, conducting education regarding risk management, consulting and conferring on risk management issues for staff at Riverview and at off-site facilities. This position is also responsible for assessing and educating staff on requirements of CMS, Joint Commission, DHHS Licensing and the Consent Decree. Work is performed under limited supervision.

Minimum Qualifations: Licensed Registered Professional Nurse and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following areas: Risk Management and Quality Assurance.

Custodial Worker II

Job Description: This is maintenance and personal services work involving minor supervisory duties in the custodial care of buildings and equipment or heavy manual work in a dietary service. Responsibilities include sweeping, cleaning, shoveling snow, raking leaves, filling food carts, and transporting the food to designated areas, and operating boilers and elevators. Supervision is exercised over a small group of institutional Custodial Workers in general cleaning tasks or dietary service work. Work is performed under general supervision.

Minimum Qualifations: Must be able to: function as a lead worker in a structured work environment; follow instructions; operate manual and automatic custodial equipment; adhere to safety rules; adapt quickly to diverse work assignments; work harmoniously in a team environment; lift 40 lbs. unassisted; follow a work schedule; and work in place of the Department supervisor as required. Preference will be given to those with computer experience and with previous housekeeping experience.

Job Description:  This is maintenance and personal services work in providing custodial services to buildings and grounds of a mental health institution.  Work includes delivering food carts, cleaning and maintaining residential areas (bedrooms, dayrooms, dining areas), program areas, employee work areas and/or other institutional areas (bathrooms, corridors, etc.).  Work requires considerable physical effort and intermittent exposure to abnormal human behavior.  Work is performed under general supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:  Experience in housekeeping and the physical capacity to perform a wide variety of custodial tasks.

  • Tuesday – Saturday, 10a.m. – 6:30p.m.
