Client Handbook - What is allowed and not allowed

While a client at Riverview the following is a list of what is allowed and what is not allowed:

Items Allowed

(Under Supervision - Rated according to level of supervision required)
1 = Constant Supervision
2 = Close Supervision (eg. w/staff)
3 = Unit Supervision (as per unit safety checks)

  • 3 - CD Players w/batteries
  • 2 - Shampoo and conditioner
  • 2 - Baby Powder
  • 1 - Disposable lighter
  • 3 - Cardboard boxes
  • 2 - Wrapping paper
  • 2 - Tape (scotch, masking)
  • 3 - Barrettes
  • 3 - Tables
  • 1 - Nail clippers
  • 1 - Safety razors
  • 3 - Radios w/batteries
  • 3 - Pocketbooks with straps (outside of room)
  • 1 - Glue, non-toxic only
  • 2 - Needles, knitting, crochet, sewing
  • 3 - Plastic bottles
  • 1 - Small, compact mirror only
  • 3 - CDs/tapes (audio, video cassettes)(to be signed out)
  • 3 - Paper bags
  • 1 - Depilatory lotions/applications
  • 3 - Computers (laptop only - MD order)
  • 3 - Belts (with MD order)
  • 1 - Nail file
  • 1 - Dental floss
  • 2 - Baby lotion
  • 3 - Hand-held games
  • 3 - Pens & Pencils
  • 1 - Camera/ Film

What is not allowed

  • *Any other items deemed clinically inappropriate
  • Alcohol
  • Alcohol based products (including mouthwash)
  • Butane lighter
  • Electrical cords
  • Finger nail polish
  • Finger nail polish remover
  • Flammable or explosive substances
  • Glass
  • Hair coloring agents
  • Hair straightener
  • Knives
  • Mace/Pepper spray
  • Matches
  • Medications (including OTCs)
  • Mirrors (except small compacts)
  • Nylons
  • Other corded items/clothing
  • Paper clips
  • Plastic boxes
  • Razor blades (other then safety)
  • Rope
  • Scarves
  • Staples
  • Street drugs
  • Toxic Substances
  • Unidentified substances
  • Wire bound notebooks and pads
