There is a residency requirement. Some documents that can be provided to prove residency include an affidavit, driver’s license, utility bill or rent receipt.

States in the Northeast region do not have stricter requirements for proving state residency than what the Federal Regulations require, with the exception of New York, which requires finger imaging to prevent duplicate participation.

MaineCare

Federal policy states that Medicaid eligibility may not be denied because an individual has not resided in the State for a specified period.

Same criteria as Maine. Connecticut had previously required a rent receipt or utility bill or landlord statement, but it is no longer required.

TANF

There is a proof of residency requirement. Some documents that can be provided to prove residency include a driver’s license, utility bill, or rent receipt.

General Assistance

A person may receive General Assistance as long as they reside in the State of Maine, in the town from which they have applied.
