Resources for Promoting Maine's Prescription Monitoring ProgramMaine's Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) is a tool created to prevent and detect prescription drug misuse and diversion. PMP maintains a database of all transactions for controlled substances dispensed in the State of Maine. This database is available online to prescribers and dispensers. A free service of the Office of Substance Abuse (OSA) in the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, the PMP database is quickly becoming a standard tool for clinicians to provide better care to their patients throughout the state. OSA has created a tracking tool to assist HMP staff members in tracking registration and usage in their service areas. For baseline data for your HMP local service area, please view the "Patient Reports by Requester Community, First Quarter 2009 with Description" report (PDF). A few words of guidance for interpreting this reportThis report is provided to indicate the level of use in the given HMP service area. It is not intended to be used for comparisons between HMP service areas. The intent of this report is to give HMP's a tool for tracking their own progress over time. HMP's vary widely by size, demographics, and number of health care professionals. Only some HMP's have chosen the optional objectives related to PMP. Definitions
(PDF version of the above guidance) Major Reasons for Change-over to New PortalGoold Health Systems (GHS) began hosting the online database interface on January 5, 2009. The new portal offers several new features, including automated password recovery (available 24/7), more up-to-date data, and several new features for data submitters. The new system, in effect, provides easier access to more accurate data than the old system. Documentation of PMP Web PortalCanges to the online PMP portal have left many long-time users of the old portal eager for “re-training.” The links below are documentation of the new PMP web portal.
