Past Research Projects
The Office of Substance Abuse participated in two major past research projects, one focusing on prevention, the other on treatment:
Prevention
The prevetion research project, known as the Diffusion Project, was the second in a pair of studies done in conjuntion with the Social Development Research Group a the University of Washington and several other states. The original study began in 1992 and was called the Six-State Consoritium.
Treatment
The treatment research project, known as the State Treatmnet Needs Assessment Project (STNAP), was used to estimate treatment needs in the state of Maine by using several different methodologies to collect the data. This project was don in conjunction with Research Triangle Institute in North Carolina.
Round II had three studies associated with it. Those were the Treatment Needs Among Maine's TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) Population Study, the Emergin Issues: The Impact of Maine's Treatment System Study, and an Imtegration and Systems Coordination Study.
Round I consisted of the Alcohol and Other Drug Houshold Telephone Study, the Arrestee Study, the School-Aged Population Study, the Social Indicators Study, the Assessment of the Current Treatmnet System Study, and an Intgrative Study.
