Treatment Data

The number of treatment admissions for prescription drug abuse has continued to rise; there were 3,656 admissions to substance abuse treatment for primary drug of "other opiates and synthetics" (e.g., Percocet) during state fiscal year 2008, compared to 1,148 during state fiscal year 2003 (TDS).

Drug-related Death Data

The number of drug-related deaths in Maine has declined slightly over the past few years. In 2005, there were 176 drug-related deaths in Maine, and in 2006, there were 167. Diversion-related Arrests

In calendar year 2008, 39 % of MDEA arrests involved prescription drug diversion. - Roy McKinney, Maine DEA (personal communication)
