Prescription Data Portal (PDP)

The Office of Substance Abuse (OSA) has developed a web portal to access Prescription Monitoring Program data. The data is currently collected bi-monthly from all pharmacies licensed to dispense controlled substances in the state. This data is collected by GHS Data Management who uploads the data to the state's Office of Information Technology within one week of receipt. To gain access to either database, you must first register. (Already registered? Click here to access the Prescription Data Portal.)

Registration

Register with the PMP program online at the GHS web site.

Once registered and certified by OSA, you will receive a fax (or letter) with your user ID, password, and e-signature. Within 48 hours of receiving this fax, your account will be activated on OSA's Prescription Data Portal (http://www.maine.gov/pmp).

Online Reports

You can build your own reports online once your account is activated. Use your user ID, password, and electronic-signature to access the data portal at www.maine.gov/pmp. This portal allows registered prescribers (for patients under their care) and dispensers (for customers seeking to have a prescription filled) to enter a first name, last name, and date of birth to generate a report of all issued prescription drugs (Schedule II, III, and IV). (The whole process takes about 5 to 10 minutes.) To provide the appropriate security for access, all account passwords must be changed every 90 days (the system will prompt the user to change it).

Sub-accounts

Once you are registered to use the PDP, you can create sub-accounts under your user ID. Sub-accounts are intended for other "licensed health care professionals" (e.g., nurses) under your supervision. For step-by-step instructions, click here (sub-account set-up - Word version for easy printing). First-time log-in instructions for new sub-account users are here (first-time sub-account log in Word version).

Paper Reports

You can request paper reports from GHS Data Management by logging on to GHS's "PMP Logon" page (click the "Request Patient History Report" link). (You may also request a report using the paper form you can download at the GHS PMP Page.) GHS will mannually build paper reports and send them within 24 to 48 hours of the request being received (please allow more time on weekends and holidays). The advantage of the paper reports is that they include data slightly more current than the reports available on OSA's Prescription Data Portal.

Requestors may build their own reports online as often as they like. Please keep requests to GHS for paper reports to a reasonable number.
