Data & ResearchOne of the basic operating premises of the Office of Substance Abuse (OSA) is that its work be guided by objective data. OSA gathers data from multiple sources to inform planning and resource allocation decisions. DHHS Dashboard - Health indicators that are tracked to measure public health , service provision and quality across all DHHS Offices. The dashboard includes a broad range of indicators, not just in substance abuse. OSA Surveillance Systems:
Community Epidemiology Surveillance Network (CESN)The purpose of the CESN is to facilitate the early identification of troubling trends in substance abuse and their consequences, so that prevention, intervention, and treatment programs can be implemented with maximum impact. Recent Data - Maine Community Epidemiology Surveillance Network Reports: Latest CESN Report: "Substance Abuse Trends in Maine, March 2012" (PDF | Word) Most Recent Sub-State Epidemiological Profiles Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey (MIYHS)In 2009, the Maine Youth Drug and Alcohol Use Survey (MYDAUS) was replaced by the Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey (MIYHS). The MIYHS is a joint effort of OSA, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (DHHS-Maine CDC), and the Department of Education. The MIYHS covers a broad array of health topics, including substance use. Maine Youth Drug and Alcohol Use Survey (MYDAUS)The purpose of the MYDAUS is to quantify the use of alcohol, tobacco and other substances among 6th through 12th grade students in Maine, and to identify the risk and protective factors that influence a student’s choice of whether or not to engage in these and related behaviors. These influences are found in the different domains of the student’s social environment: peer group, family, school and community. Starting in 2009, the MYDAUS will be replaced by the Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey (MIYHS) [link hasn’t been created yet] which will cover a wider range of health issues. Recent Data:
