Juvenile drug treatment courts (JDTC) have been established in six locations across the state The JDTC programs are currently providing community based SA treatment services to approximately 80 adolescent offenders in Maine. The most recently established juvenile drug court site is in Lewiston and began service in January of 2002.
The goals of the Juvenile Drug Treatment Court include enhancing the collaboration between substance abuse providers and the juvenile justice system. By helping youthful offenders successfully reenter the community, we can avoid re-offending, enhance community safety and ease adult correctional facility overcrowding.
Members of the Juvenile Drug Treatment Court Team include a Judge, Treatment Case Manager, Treatment Provider, Juvenile Community Corrections Officer (JCCO), District Attorney, Defense Attorney, a parent and/or guardian and others who are supportive in the juveniles' recovery process.
JDTC case management services are provided by Day One. Substance abuse treatment services are coordinated and contracted through the Juvenile Substance Abuse Treatment Network and the Office of Substance Abuse.
Other Problem Solving Courts in Maine include three judicial run, grant funded programs which include Family Drug Court in Androscoggin and Lincoln Counties, and a Co-occurring Drug Court in Kennebec County.
