> Criminal Justice > Differential Substance Abuse Treatment (DSAT)
Differential Substance Abuse Treatment (DSAT)Differential Substance Abuse Treatment (DSAT) is the Motivational Enhancement and cognitive-behavioral treatment model specifically developed, in partnership with the Maine Department of Corrections, to provide a continuum of comprehensive substance abuse treatment services to adult offenders in correctional and community settings across the state. DSAT differentiates by gender and by severity of addiction. DSAT is delivered in a group setting, enlisting peer feedback as a primary motivator for change. Implementation of the DSAT System began in April of 2001. The Community DSAT program for men and women in community corrections is provided by seven substance abuse treatment agencies in six counties across Maine. The Institutional DSAT program is provided in MDOC Institutions across the state. The Differential
Substance Abuse Treatment Model Report, published by the Maine Office
of Substance Abuse (OSA) in 1999, provides a comprehensive overview
of the development, key components, and implementation plan for the
DSAT System in Maine. A copy can be borrowed through the OSA Information
and Resource Center. For more information about DSAT, you can contact
Jarad Platt, Correction Programs Coordinator (207) 287-6339.
