Problem gambling is treatable. Intervention can prevent the inevitable downward spiral of the disorder, allowing individuals and families to return to healthy, happy, productive lives. Programs for problem gamblers and their families in Maine include Gamblers Anonymous and Gam-Anon, local gambling treatment & education providers, mental health & addiction specialists. MISSION STATEMENT

THE MISSION OF MAINE COUNCIL ON PROBLEM GAMBLING IS TO RAISE PUBLIC AWARENESS THAT PROBLEM, PATHOLOGICAL GAMBLING IS A TREATABLE DISORDER. THE COUNCIL FACILITATES THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NETWORK OF SERVICES FOR SUCH GAMBLERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THE MISSION IS CARRIED OUT THROUGH A PROGRAM ENCOMPASSING THE FOLLOWING:

  • ADVOCACY AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT AND SOCIAL POLICY
  • TRAINING OF HEALTH PROFESSIONALS IN THE
    IDENTIFICATION AND TREATMENT OF PROBLEM
    AND COMPULSIVE GAMBLING
  • PUBLIC EDUCATION AND INFORMATION THROUGH PUBLIC SPEAKING, MEDIA RELATIONS, LITERATURE DISTRIBUTION, COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS, ETC.
  • PREVENTION
  • REFERRAL SERVICES
  • 24-HOUR, TOLL-FREE HELPLINE SERVICES
