Maine Gambling Addiction Network (MEGAN)

What it is:

The Maine Gambling Addiction Network (MEGAN) was created to ensure problem gamblers (adult & adolescents) have access to treatment services from trained counselors, and the financial resources to undergo treatment. Establishing MEGAN within two years of the first casino opening in Maine is forward thinking and a smart step in ensuring that all Mainers will be able to get treatment, if needed.

How it Works:

MEGAN coordinates funding for treatment and can pay for up to 16 treatment sessions when insurance or MaineCare will not cover it. Counselors who have received their gambling and addiction treatment certification from the Maine Office of Substance Abuse use a simple, four question tool to determine whether a client has a gambling problem. Once a potential problem is identified, counselors give a more comprehensive gambling assessment to determine the level of the problem.

MEGAN is available throughout Maine at several locations.
