ICD-10 Project Update
September 3, 2013
The ICD-10 project is progressing in the Development phase. The Integrated Test Plan, including Pilot Testing, is in the final stages of review and Pilot testers will be identified by the fall of 2013. Internal testing of ICD-10 will begin in the first quarter of 2014, while external testing (Pilot) will begin in the third quarter of 2014.
The ICD-10 webpage is updated regularly, including the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section. The next ICD-10 Provider Readiness Survey will be conducted in September 2013. A link to the survey will be distributed via MaineCare’s listserv, and will also be available on the webpage.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has provided a free tool to crosswalk codes between ICD-9 and ICD-10. The General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs) tool defines reasonable matches for mappings between ICD-9 and ICD-10. MaineCare utilized this tool to map codes covered under MaineCare policy. Go to the CMS website to access the GEMs tool.
