Changes in Authorization Process for Home Support Services

February 15, 2013

Changes in Authorization Process for Home Support Services Beginning March 1, 2013, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will transfer responsibility for utilization review to APS Healthcare for Home Support Services within HOME AND COMMUNITY BENEFITS FOR ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES OR AUTISTIC DISORDER (MaineCare Benefits Manual, Chapter II, Section 21).

The Home Support Services being transferred to APS Healthcare for utilization review are as follows:

• Home Support (T2017 and T2017SC) • Agency Home Support (T2016 and T2016 SC) • Crisis Intervention Services (T2034)

Please note that utilization review for Shared Living Home Support and Family-Centered Home Support will remain with DHHS Office of Aging and Disability Services at this time.

Providers impacted by this change will need to register with APS Healthcare, if they have not already done so. Providers can contact the Provider Relations staff at APS Healthcare by calling 866-521-0027 or via email to request a registration packet or for additional information.

APS is hosting provider trainings throughout the month of February for the services being incorporated into the APS-Maine program. The training schedule is posted on APS’s website. Registration is not required to attend any of the scheduled trainings.
