Delay in Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) 2013 Psychiatry Codes

January 4, 2013

Delay in Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) 2013 Psychiatry Codes There has been a slight delay in the implementation of the changes to the codes in the Psychiatry section of the American Medical Association’s Current Procedural Terminology (CPT). These changes were to go into effect in MIHMS on 1/1/2013. However the codes will not be implemented until 1/16/2013. The effective date of the codes will be back-dated to 01/01/2013. Until then, claims for these codes will not process correctly. We apologize for this inconvenience. Claims will be reprocessed when the codes have been implemented. These codes affect providers who utilize CPT psychiatry codes. Hospitals (MaineCare Manual Benefits Section 45) and Physician Offices (MaineCare Manual Benefits Section 90) are the two provider types affected by this change. Providers using HCPC codes under a different section of Policy, such as Mental Health Agencies (Section 65 Chapter III) will continue to use HCPC codes that are outlined in Chapter III of that Policy and are not affected by this change.
