Home care: Where to find ItInformation and Outreach ServicesArea Agency on Aging staff make home visits and help people complete applications for programs such as Food Stamps, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Maine’s Low Cost Drug Program for Elderly and Disabled people, Property Tax and Rent Refund and help paying Medicare premiums. Staff are also available by phone to answer questions about home care, transportation, health insurance, Meals on Wheels/Nutrition, government programs, legal services, housing and financial assistance. For more information, contact your local Area Agency on Aging. The Office of Elder Services, 287-9200, 1-800-262-2232, or TTY 1-800-606-0215 publishes the Resource Directory for Older People in Maine. They also have materials on topics such as Alzheimer’s disease, Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Medigap), living wills, powers of attorney and guardianship.
