In the United States the rate of completion for suicides in people aged 65 and over is 50%. The rate of completion for all other people is 14.3%. This is a 350% increase.

Large numbers of older people display symptoms of depression. Many remain untreated because it is often believed that depression is just a normal part of growing old. Depression is not a normal part of aging. This web site has been created to educate the elderly, their families, and friends on the correct information about depression. It will allow people to learn the common causes and symptoms of depression, obtain background information on diagnoses of depression, become aware of the precautions and side effects of some treatments and medication, as well as discover resources to contact for help.

According to national studies, 25% of older Americans aged 65 and over experience at least one major depressive episode in their lives although many will experience more.
