Working in a Licensed Child Care Facility

There are many opportunities throughout the state of Maine to work in licensed child care settings. Child Care Centers, Family Child Care Homes, Head Start programs, Nursery Schools, and Resource Development Centers employ people interested in working in the child care field. There are many different positions available, both working directly with children or in administrative roles.

The education and experience requirements for positions in child care vary. Licensing Rules set minimum requirements for certain positions, such as for a child care center Director and Head Teachers. National Standards also place requirements on programs, for example Head Start teachers or teachers at Accredited centers must meet certain educational standards.

If you do work with children in a licensed facility, you will be required to submit to a background check. You will also be required to participate in minimum training requirements, which include CPR and First Aid certification. While employed at a licensed child care, you will be a mandated reporter if you suspect abuse of any child by a parent, provider, or another person.
