Description of Services:     

  • Birchwood Living Center is a fifteen bed intermediate care nursing facility, built in 1982 and began operation in 1983.  The facility provides twenty-four hour nursing services to people with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities.  This facility is the only nursing facility specializing in serving the developmentally disabled in Hancock and Washington Counties.  The staff of the facility provide medical and active treatment programs that benefit the individual being served with the goal of discharge to a more normal, less restrictive living environment.
  • Booth Learning Center  provides day program services to individuals with mental retardation using three basic levels of personal and social adjustment.  Level I is designed to focus on behaviors and activities which are basic to self maintenance, self awareness and self motivation.  Level II is designed to provide and promote the practical and useful application, adaption and intergration of developmental skills necessary for semi or independent daily living.  Level III is designed to provide training and services which maximize individual functioning in personal development and community living.
  • The Heath Haven Residence was named after a life long advocate for the disabled in Bar Harbor, Maine.  This facility is a five bed Level IIII  Residential Care Facility serving adults with substantial medical issues and developmental disabilities in a home like environment.  This program provides a range of services including community intergration and other basic living skills.
