Description of Services:

GMS is a non-profit organization that serves adults with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders. GMS provides Residential, Shared Living Options, In-Home Supports and Case Management Services. GMS is dedicated to serving our community by providing a valuable service. Our consumers live, work, volunteer and socialize in their community with support from dedicated professionals. Our organization has been recognized as the best of its kind. Our organization is growing at a steady pace. With this growth, we have been able to provide support services that focus on quality individualized programming that fosters choice, desires, independence, community integration and the ability to learn new skills as well as build upon present ones.

GMS offers residential services to individuals through a tailored treatment approach at fifteen different homes.  Our agency firmly believes in meeting the needs of the whole person, recognizing that care and treatment will vary greatly not just from home to home but also for each person. While GMS serves only people with intellectual disabilities receiving section 21 waiver, we realize the diversity in the population and strive to offer individualized support in a number of areas.

To better serve consumers across the spectrum of need while maximizing the opportunity for personal choice and growth, GMS offers a shared living option (SLO), sometimes referred to as "adult foster care." This option places the individual served into a home with a family or supportive roommate within the community of their choosing.

GMS offers homes with ASL proficient staff for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing, increased training in mental health for those homes serving Dually Diagnosed individuals, a Registered Nurse to consult regarding medical needs, and a wealth of experience and resources in serving an aging population, including Alzheimer's and Dementia.

GMS is one of the few agencies in the State of Maine providing Case Management services by individuals fluent in ASL.  As an agency GMS is committed to providing the highest quality services for people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing or experience communication barriers.
