Who We Are
Amicus is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and has existed in Bangor since 1971. We are private and non-profit. We support approximately 300 adults with intellectual and physical disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Learning takes place in seven programs located at three sites in Bangor with full access to the community. Some individuals choose to participate in our five hour per day programs and others choose a different schedule.
Using a plan tailored for and with you, Amicus seeks to promote achievements that contribute to self-respect, personal development, purposeful work, and meaningful participation in the community. We work toward ensure a society where people can freely participate in all areas of community life regardless of their abilities.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in alternative communication including American Sign Language, Visual Gestural, and adaptive communication devices including computers
- Qualified Physical, Speech, and Occupational Therapists
- Employment Program staff qualified in the Maine Employment Curriculum
- A history of success in positive behavioral supports
Amicus provides Community Case Management which includes representative payee support when needed; a number of choices of community support services, Employments Supports and Home Supports. Amicus also has twelve individual apartments thought Maine State Housing for individuals with disabilities.
