Geriatric Mental Health Services

The Department of Health and Human Services seeks to make available treatment and support services to elder persons who have a mental illness or who experience mental retardation or substance addictions/abuse. However, circumstances associated with aging such as isolation (living alone), denial and shame, impaired mobility and diminished social supports present unique challenges to delivering effective services.

Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Senior management meet monthly to discuss needs of mutual clients. These meetings work to improve communication at all levels from senior management to direct service provider and to improve the delivery of services statewide.
