Data, Research and Vital Statistics
Medical Data Providers EDRS overview and training process.
The Maine CDC – Vital Records EDRS Team is moving forward to implement the Electronic Death Registration System! We are targeting medical certifiers and medical facilities that are in geographical proximity to the funeral homes and municipalities currently participating in the EDRS project. This system will allow for a complete electronic registration of death certificates. All medical certifiers (Physicians, Physician Assistants, Certified Nurse Practitioners, and facility staff) will be required to complete the medical certification information within the EDRS/DAVE application per S.P. 392 – L.D. 1271 by July 1st, 2012.
The medical certifiers will find many benefits to using this system. The EDRS system will improve the timeliness and quality of data on death reporting. There will be improved communication and less travel required for remote or rural providers who certify deaths. With the user-friendly data entry screens and the secured 24/7 availability the system will allow for convenient registration of deaths.
The Muskie School of Public Service has taken the time to help us create this online training module for our EDRS participants. I think you will find this training module informative with easy instructions to follow as you progress thru the screens. You will be asked to set up a user profile for the site and from there you can go to the State of Maine Medical Certifiers link for the training. There is also easy access to two different forms of resources; our EDRS user manual in electronic format or in a .PDF downloadable version and the video training modules that are narrated by our own EDRS Training Coordinator Theresa Roberts.
If you have already been using this system you will find the training modules go directly thru each Medical Certifier link from Pronouncement to the Certifier page including how to log into the system and change your password. For those of you who have never been in the EDRS application, you will notice it is very similar to the Electronic Medical Records that you have been using as a Medical provider.
Please go to http://dave.trainingserver.net and follow the directions to log in as a "student".
The EDRS team is hoping this method of training will make it easier for you and your staff to learn the new electronic death registration system. We appreciate your patience as we move forward in getting all providers onto the system.
If you have any questions about the EDRS and online training, please feel free to contact the EDRS team at the Application Support Line, 888-664-9491.
