Augusta, ME – As part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program (MBCHP) and the Southern Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program (SMBCHP) will be offering two free special breast and cervical health screenings this week.

Women will receive a clinical breast exam, Pap test and mammogram, all on the same day.

To qualify, a woman must be 40-64 years old and meet generous income guidelines. In addition, qualifying women will have either no medical insurance (including MaineCare or Medicare Part B) or insurance which does not cover breast and cervical screening services.

The special screening days will be held on Wednesday, October 20 in Kennebunk from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM, and on Saturday, October 23 at SMMC in Biddeford from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Pre-registration is required. For more information about the program or to pre register, please call the SMBCHP at 1-207-283-7685.

The MBCHP, a program of HHS’ Bureau of Health, is partnering with the SMBCHP, Linda Anderson, WHNP and the Southern Maine Medical Center Visiting Nurses to provide these special screenings to women in Southern Maine.
