Prompt recognition of influenza, initiation of infection control measures and utilization of antiviral medications in long-term care facilities can help prevent influenza from spreading to patients and healthcare personnel. Monitoring residents for influenza-like illness (ILI) is important for prompt disease detection and control and limiting significant morbidity and mortality.
