COMPUTERIZED TESTING NOW AVAILABLE

Applied Measurements Professionals, AMP, now offers Water Operator Exams for Maine licensure, in Portland, ME.

Exam Prices are $70 for VSWS and $87 for Class I- IV Treatment and Distribution

You may sign up on line or through the mail directly with AMP. Applications through the mail will take longer but can be done with the use of this application form and by calling AMP at (800) 345-6559.

To register on-line Online go to www.goamp.com. Most questions you may have concerning computerized testing can be answered on this site, but help is available from Jessica, 287-5699 or Terry 287-7485. It is very important to read the Candidate Handbook.

To sign up choose “Candidates

Select a category > Water/Wastewater

Select a program > Maine Board of Licensure of Water System Operators

Select an examination > you may select one at a time or multiple exams, however you must schedule each exam separately.

The Application form is only necessary if paying other than by credit card. The same questions will be asked in the Log-In process

You will be asked to create a Log In – think about this, make sure you can remember your user name and password.

This will have your contact information and will create a page for you to return to on later visits. Once you have created a Log In you will be able to go directly to your page. It will remember what exam you wish to take.

Scheduling an examination Once you have a My Home page you will be able to schedule your test. Click on the Schedule box, select an Assessment Center – in Maine we presently have one site in Portland at the H& R Block 125 Auburn St. Directions are available by clicking the “Locate Testing Centers” box. You may take the test at any AMP testing site.

Check out - Select a day; the fee, time selection and payment information will appear and payment and scheduling will take place.

New Rules

The Revised Rules effective January 2, 2012 may be found here. The following is a summary of important changes.

  • Examination and Licensing Processes have been separated. The application process to take an exam is now very simplified. New forms for examination are available.
  • Exam Requirements - It is no longer a requirement to pass each level of exam before achieving the higher level license. Persons may sit for whichever level of license they feel most comfortable to accomplish. There are 9 exams available VSWS, Class I-IV T and D. Paper exams ($95) will be proctored by the Board twice this year, March and October. Computer based testing ($75 VSWS, $90 I-IV T &D) will be available directly from AMP- information on DWP website.
  • Application for licensure will take place only after successfully passing the exam (s). Initial licensure ($75) upgrades ($20). Licensure is applied per person not per discipline. At the time of licensure the Board will determine if education and experience requirements allow for a full or OIT license. License applciation form is available here.

    USE NEW FORMS - PROCESSES ARE SEPARATED - FEES HAVE CHANGED

  • Renewal Period - Now date dependant. A license may be renewed as early as Nov. 1 of the renewal period. Benefits operator by allowing end of year TCHs to count on the next license cycle. Late renewal dates are also the start of the TCH period. Not just Jan 1st any more. License has the renewed date in lower left corner.
  • Plant upgrades - require Designated Operator to hold appropriate license within 90 days of State changing the operating category. Formerly was next test cycle. Computer based testing allows for ample testing time in 3 months.

2010 Annual Operator Certification Report

This report is sent yearly to EPA to summarize Operator Certification Program activities for the calendar year.

Operator Requirements:

VSWS systems are required to designate one operator in responsible charge. Class I and higher public water suppliers are required to designate two "operators in direct responsible charge". This must be updated within 30 days of any changes.
