Proposed Crematoria Rules

The Maine Division of Environmental Health has begun the development of Maine’s Rules for Establishment and Operation of Crematoria. The draft rules are merely a beginning point and could possibly change dramatically, depending on stakeholders’ comments and feedback, and subject to a public hearing prior to final adoption.

In the interim, we are currently in the process of scheduling stakeholder meetings. Our goal is to develop crematoria rules which are equitable to the industry, but do not compromise the protection of public health, safety and welfare.
